Nicodemus: Put Down Your Pride and Seek Jesus

Nicodemus was a respected man, a religious leader, and a teacher among his people. He had education, authority, and knowledge of the Scriptures. Yet something inside him told him that Jesus had more to teach him. He came to Jesus at night and began a conversation that changed the meaning of spiritual life forever.

Nicodemus teaches us that no person is too educated, too old, too respected, or too experienced to seek deeper understanding from Jesus Christ.

Nicodemus Came to Jesus

The Bible tells us that Nicodemus was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews. He recognized that the miracles Jesus performed showed that God was with Him.

Nicodemus could have allowed his position to stop him from coming to Jesus. He could have said, “I am already a teacher. I already understand religion.” Instead, he humbled himself and went to Jesus.

This is an important lesson for every generation. Sometimes our education, age, church position, life experience, or success can make it difficult for us to admit that we still need spiritual understanding.

A humble heart is willing to learn.

Knowledge Is Not the Same as New Life

Nicodemus knew many religious teachings, but Jesus told him something unexpected:

“Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus did not immediately understand. He thought about physical birth, but Jesus was speaking about spiritual birth.

A person can know Bible stories, attend church, hold a church position, and still need a personal transformation through Jesus Christ. Religious knowledge is valuable, but knowledge alone cannot give us new spiritual life.

Jesus came to change hearts, not merely to increase information.

What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?

To be born again means receiving new life from God. It is the work of the Holy Spirit within a person who believes in Jesus Christ.

Physical birth brings us into a human family. Spiritual birth brings us into the family of God.

This new birth does not mean that we become perfect immediately. It means that God begins a new work within us. Our desires, direction, thinking, and relationship with Him begin to change.

We no longer live only for ourselves. We begin to live by faith, obedience, love, and hope.

Put Down Your Ego

Nicodemus reminds us to put down our ego and come to Jesus honestly.

We do not need to pretend that we understand everything. We can bring our questions, doubts, confusion, weaknesses, and spiritual needs to Christ.

Jesus did not reject Nicodemus for asking questions. He patiently taught him the truth.

The same Jesus is still ready to teach every humble heart today.

Come to Jesus Today

Perhaps you have known about Jesus for many years. Perhaps you have served in church, raised a family, studied the Bible, or carried many responsibilities. Yet Jesus may still be calling you into a deeper relationship with Him.

Do not allow pride, position, age, fear, or past experience to keep you away.

Come to Jesus with a humble heart.

Like Nicodemus, listen carefully. Ask questions. Receive the truth. Allow the Holy Spirit to give you new life.

Jesus is more than a teacher from history. He is the Son of God, the Savior, and the giver of eternal life.
