At far off, I could see smoke and the unknown people holding machetes and sticks standing, and strange people with machetes and sticks on church ground. The church structure burned down, and the stones not visible. Stones were thrown into a latrine pit deep. One hundred fifty feet deep to cover it. I stopped a far off and came out of my bicycle, slowly continued walking forward. A man from the churchyard’s smoking group walked toward me and met me before reaching the group. If you want to die, the man said to me, dare walking to that place of worship. I knew the man, he was my neighbor. We were standing and talking about what was happening that day.
Meanwhile, a second man from the group joined us as we discussed and ordered me to leave the place fast. My neighbor said he knew me; the two men allowed to walk by the church ground and join the church members group gathered in one of the member’s plots. The two men assured me their group would not harm me. I followed the instructions, walked, and joined the church members who saw me come from a distance and prayed for my safety.
The land skim had allocated specific areas for religious bodies to build churches. Distrust among the land leadership speculated that some bribed and kept money to themselves and assigned a plot to our church. The Full Gospel Churches of Kenya (FGCK). We worship under the Acacia Tortilis tree umbrella for two years on the plot of one church member. The same land, across the road and opposite the destroyed church.
FGCK bought a lot and got a title deed. Instead of building a temporary structure, a permanent building free of any differences. Later two of the people who destroyed the church joined the church and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ.
My takeaway: The humility, integrity, peace, and patience and in the ministry of Jesus Christ count. Abraham purchased a piece of land to bury his wife Sarah and obtained its title deed (Gen 23: 17), and ensured one would claim it back. Abraham’s son, Isaac, demonstrated humility, integrity, peace, and patience by digging well after well while the enemies covered them until the last well free of quarrel Gen 26:18-22. Finally, Isaac worn friendship with people in the land.
