The shepherds followed the angels’ direction to go to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born and succeeded in their journey, and they spread the good news of the birth of Jesus (Luke 2:8-18, NIV).
The Magi followed the star to lead them to Bethlehem to see baby Jesus. They decided to consult with King Herod on the birth of Jesus, arousing fear in him. King Herod expected the baby Jesus to die among many boys born close to the time Jesus was born.
Joseph followed directions to Egypt and hid baby Jesus there to save his life (Matt 2:1-23), NIV.
When we accept Jesus to guide us, we succeed and benefit many others. When we do it alone, we cause harm to many lives.
